We Cannot Ignore This Problem Any Longer!

The City of Indianapolis puts 24 cats and dogs to sleep every single day because there is not enough room at Animal Care and Control. As a country, we put down approximately 2,000,000 dogs a year for lack of space. This is one of the few problems in the world for which there is a known solution that is proven to work, yet people continue to not do anything about it. The solution is simple. Backyard breeders should be illegal and only those who are highly regulated can breed limited amounts of pure bred dogs. Any person who adopts a dog or cat, unless they are a licensed breeder, should have to spay or neuter the animal before obtaining their new pet. It does not infringe on anybody’s right to force them to spay or neuter their animal when it saves so many lives in the process. Shelters on the east coast are literally empty and able to populate themselves with spillover animals from the Midwest because they have strict spay/neuter laws and they are proven to work. Purchasing animals should be illegal. There is no reason to purchase an animal from Uncle Bill’s, Petsmart, or a backyard breeder when there are literally millions of both mutts and pure bred animals available for adoption at local shelters. There is a new HBO documentary out called One Nation Under Dog which shows you all aspects of the homeless animal crisis inflicting our nation today. I recommend watching it.
